Today marks the one year anniversary of the Metaphorical Magpie. Maybe I should crack open a bottle of the bubbly that's always in the fridge for special occasions. Or kick back a shot of tequila. Over the course of a year, alot happens and at the same time not much occurs as well. I've been thinking about what's transpired in the past year in somewhat quantifiable measurements. For example, in the last year I've seen 88 bands in 9 different cities at 19 venues. Despite my modest posting record, I've had a smattering of interest in my blog. Which I have to say, makes me happy. I'm endlessly amused by the data from my tracker, Webstat. People from the United States, Canada, Great Britain (UK), Japan,Singapore, Denmark, Sweden, Malaysia, Netherlands, Australia,Israel, Turkey, Spain, Ireland, Finland, Portugal, Guam, Italy,India,Mexico, Thailandand Philippines have stopped by. Mac users account for 53% of my readers. I was surprised to find the most searched for topic that subsequently led people into my site was the phrase "cherohonkee" from the book Food Court Druids, Cherohonkees and Other Creatures Unique to the Republic by Robert Lanham. Other literary mentions include authors Dorothy Parker, Jennifer Paddock and Wesley Stace whose books I love and Heather Swain who wrote Luscious Lemon, a volume I found rather sour. Bands like Poem Adept, Shout Out Louds, Orphins, Mascott, Soledad Brothers,Holly Golightly and Rhett Miller got hits along with the soundtracks for Napoleon Dynamite and Hotel Rawanda. Lloyd Dobler and I Heart Nerds t-shirts were sought after. The foodies came in search of Buttercup Bakery cupcake franchise info, italian ices, Crystal Light, dirty bong water mixed drinks, crumb buns and recipes for recovering tonsillectomy patients. Best of all were the weird searches, some of them I'm still unsure why they arrived at Magpie at all. Some of the weirdest ... snoopy snowcone instructions online feel good fashion old navy commercial mowing the lawn is blowing ... When was taxidermied animals first prepared?
