My birthday looms and my thoughts turn to highly impractical and possibly exorbitantly expensive items (but hey, who cares, I'm not buying) that would make me gush like a jelly donut if bestowed upon me in a beribboned box. Not that I am a)trying to drum up gifts or b) really expect to receive any of these things but sometimes it is nice to window, er, website shop. Now, if I was an expresso drinker, which I am not ... I would have to have these expresso cups and saucers designed by Joep van Lieshout for Illy which depict the four systems of the human body involved in drinking coffee. Along with my caffeine, I'll need a Pink Sprink donut from the SewDorky donut shop. Since it's inedible, it wont make me fat but will bring me lots of joy as I poke the icing and fondle the beaded sprinkles. A good read with a nosh is always a plus. I'd like a copy of Rock Snob's Dictionary by David Kamp & Steven Daly. Since I'm a magazine junkie, I could always use a few new subscriptions to clutter the coffee table. Right now, I'm enamored with Domino and Everyday Food. If I have to dash off, I can slip my reading material into a Copacetic parakeet tote bag that makes my bird lovin' heart take flight. Oh, what the heck, toss a cardinal and cassette button in the bag for good luck. To keep a watchful eye on my birds, how about a Kit-Kat clock? I've always wanted one and it will be historically accurate in my home built in the 30's. I just know my mango salsa will look smashing in Nigella Lawson's mixing bowls in a lovely robins egg blue and a amoeba like shape that hugs the body as you stir. Her bread box is pretty stellar as well, with a wooden top that doubles as a cutting board. A girl needs some pampering every once in a while. My first wish would be a refill on one of my favorite scents, Radiance, blended by Hove Parfumeur in New Orleans. Cyndemouse and I stumbled into the Royal St. shop on a rainy afternoon. After swooning, I bought several small vials of a variety of scents. Radiance, a glorious Bulgarian rose attar, is my favorite. I truly do glow when I wear it. A trio of Philosophy bubble bath named The Birthday Cake seems awesomely appropriate. Now where do we stick the candles?
