If I had a free day this week, say Thursday, I would slip into the city and stimulate my sensory organs with a smattering of delights. First stop, pocketing some artisinal chocolates from the confectionary wizard, Jacques Torres or Mr.Chocolate as he likes to call himself. Torres just opened a new shop, Chocolate Haven, on Hudson St. After loading my pockets with sweets, I'd merrily skip down to Chinatown to revel in the remains of the Lunar New Year's celebrations. Afterwards, some eye candy in the form of a matinee at the Film Forum would be in order. In the Realms of the Unreal, a film about outsider artist Henry Darger looks absolutely fascinating. Darger, a brilliant nutjobber, spent his childhood in an asylum and his adult life slogging away as a janitor and his spare time, which he must have had skads of creating a vivid world of frolicking little girls that all have penises for some reason. Seeing certainly would be believing in this case. Then maybe a stop for some sustenance. I'm torn between an Indian feast or a stop at Rice for some black thai rice and something scrumptious lavished on top. If I'm lucky, I'll score the window seat like the last time I dined there with Benjalady, Talullah and JPo. Next stop, a reading by Sam Lipsyte from his new book, Home Land, which left me howling. Sam Lipsyte will be speaking on Thursday, February 10th at 7pm at Spoonbill & Sugartown Booksellers, 218 Bedford Avenue,Williamsburg, Brooklyn amongst other places soon. Read an excerpt here . Ah, what a fabulous day I would have. I feel refreshed just imagining it...
